Managing Director
Ian has been integral to the success of Crown Engineering, leading the business through his role as Managing Director since 2016.  Ian combines more than 40 years of technical engineering and manufacturing experience in both operational and management roles, to lead the sustained growth and strategic direction of the company. Ian’s focus is to manage Crown’s continued success in a manner that retains the long-term relationships and a collaborative approach that has been the hallmark of the company since its inception in 1920. He is actively involved in the manufacturing industry, building relationships with clients and partners to uphold the respected position Crown holds in the industry.
Director / Estimator
Ray’s career in Crown Engineering spans back over 55 years. First as an apprentice, then as a tradesman, next was foreman at age 25 and finally in 1978 becoming managing director at 28 years of age. Ray remained as managing director up until August, 2016. During his period of 38 years at the helm, Ray’s dynamic leadership approach continued the successful growth and expansion of the business. After stepping aside, Ray continues to be an active member of the Crown team and provides years of experience and expertise with day-to-day operations, sales and estimating.
Operations Manager
Nigel Yates joined Crown Engineering in May 2007, having arrived from the UK where he managed a successful sub contract engineering company supplying high end quality components to companies like Rolls Royce, Bentley, Weir Vales, Vetco Grey to name a few. Since Joining Crown Engineering, he has brought his extensive knowledge and 27 years’ experience of senior management positions to oversee the day to day running of the manufacturing facility, working with customers on major projects and shutdowns to ensure that all contractual requirements are met.
Quality Manager
Johan joined Crown Engineering in October 2005. He brought with him 22 years of experience from Denel, the Defence/Arms Industry in South Africa where he first joined in 1984. In 1988, he obtained a trade Diploma as a Tool, Jig and Die Maker. In 1990 he joined Denel Dynamics (Aerospace Systems). Although still in the manufacturing side, the Quality aspect of manufacturing was the call and within Armscor/Denel structure, attained a diploma in both Quality Control and Quality Auditing. Since October 2005 Johan was instrumental in refining Crown’s Quality system and implemented various protocols that complement Crown Engineering’s modus operandi within our business framework. With the Quality system established at Crown Engineering, and an Australian Qualification in Quality Auditing achieved, Johan ensured an ISO 9001 accreditation was obtained in 2012. Johan is responsible for all Quality aspects of Crown Engineering in both the Quality Control and the Quality Assurance requirements.
Senior Estimator / Sales
With over 25 years of industry experience, initially as an apprentice fitter and turner, progressing through various roles within sales and technical services. I am a production focused Senior Sales / Estimator taking projects, rebuilds and spare parts for our aftermarket and OEM customers, responsible at the very initial stages of understanding customer requirements through to the start of production. I am largely focused on pricing estimations and cost analysis, quote and tender submissions, strategic sourcing of raw materials especially heavy section forgings, castings and plate.
Purchasing Officer
After leaving school in 1989 I did a 4-year apprenticeship in engineering. I went on to become a boilermaker/fitter for the next 18 years working with several companies in the Uk. After moving to Australia in 2004 I gained Permanent Residency as a boilermaker, later moving into a temporary operations managers role with my first company in Australia, during which time I Studied Procurement and Logistics. This then led me to Crown Engineering in 2007. My role at Crown includes procurement of all raw materials (Steel Forgings, Bearings, plate etc) both domestically and Internationally (China, Korea, Europe to name a few), the role also covers all forms of logistics both domestic and overseas. Building relationships with suppliers and end users.
